First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters Sasha and Malia went to the L.A. Lakers game Thursday night. The girls wanted to get their dad a jersey as a gift for Father’s Day. So AEG president Tim Leiweke — whose suite they were sitting in– had the gift shop make a customized Obama jersey. Lakers Coach Phil Jackson (and former coach of Obama’s hometown team, the Chicago Bulls) signed the jersey after the game.

First Lady Michelle Obama greeted music students Sunday to a preview of the White House’s annual Governors’ Ball featuring Harry Connick, Jr.

While introducing Connick and his band, she stressed the importance of community service.

“These guys aren’t just playing music and earning money and performing, but they’re community leaders, too,” Obama said. “And that’s really important for you guys, too, because it’s not just if you can sing and dance, but what do you give back?”

Michelle Obama Styled by Chicago Boutique Owner

Ever wonder who was behind First Lady Michelle Obama’s wardrobe for the inauguration?  Ikram Goldman, owner of a Gold Coast boutique in Chicago, managed the clothing provided by designers.  Obama’s measurements were provided by Goldman and all finished designs were sent to either Chicago or Washington.

“Mrs. Obama has shopped at Ikram’s store for years and appreciates her shared interest in working with a broad spectrum of designers, including many young and up-and-coming designers,” said Katie McCormick Lelyveld, Obama’s press secretary, to the New York Times.

Obama also spoke with Goldman about what she would wear on the cover of the March edition of Vogue magazine.
